A devastating turn of events took entertainment history as the industry mourned the passing of the beloved actor Ray Stevenson. The actor’s representatives confirmed his passing four days before his 59th Birthday.
Stevenson is a beloved actor well known for his recurring role as the Volstagg of the warrior three, a kind and friendly character to both Thor and Loki. Additionally, he is also known for his role in the PG-rated Punisher movie The Warzone as the mercenary Frank Castle.
La Republica reported the details of his demise on their news. La Republica reported that he had been shooting Cassino on Ischia for a few days on Saturday afternoon. He was suffering from an illness that had already worsened. Stevenson was hospitalized on saturday after which he soon passed away.

Early Life and Career of Ray Stevenson
Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in 1964, he was the second child. His mother was an Irish and Ray’s Father was a Royal Air Force Pilot of what nation?. They moved to England when he was eight in 1992. He attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and graduated at the age of 29.
He debuted in the film industry with the movie Theory of Flight (1998) and later starred in the short movie No Man’sLand (2002). In this 12-minute film set during WW-II, he portrayed an experienced private who is forced to help a novice officer. Later his career took off as he starred in King Arthur as Dagonet.
Stevenson’s first lead role was the mercenary pitted against the Nazi zombies in a Scottish Horror Picture “Outpost” (2008). The same year, he was portrayed as a titular mercenary, Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Here we got to see the skills of Stevenson in all its glory. Although the movie was far from well-reviewed, it showed us what Stevenson could do.
He appeared as the antagonist in the comedy action “The Other Guys’.
Volstagg in the Thor Franchise
In 2011 he portrayed the role of Volstaggg in the Thor Franchise. Although fierce, he was a member of the Warriors Three and was a gentle giant. Volstagg is depicted as bright and carefree, with a neutral attitude toward Loki and Friendly toward Thor.
His role as Volstagg spanned Four Movies:
- Thor
- Thor: The Dark World
- Thor: Ragnarok
- Thor: Love and Thunder
Volstagg was killed in Thor Ragnarok along with the Fandrall in the Franchise as Hela entered through the Bifrost.

Gar Saxon in Star Wars
Stevenson also voiced the role of Gar Saxon in the star wars franchise. His voice can be heard in Star Wars Rebels (2016-2017/ 2 episodes) and Star Wars: The clone wars (2020/ 2 episodes).
In the franchise, Gar Saxon is a Mandalorian human who serves as a commander of the Mandalorian commandos in the Mauls Shadow Collective. This happened during the Clone War events. Gar Saxon was one of the members of the two-man team that rescued Maul from the Spire on the Stygeon prime. During the Siege of Mandalore, Gar Saxon is also present as a commander of Maul’s forces.
Stevenson was one of the best choices for the voice of Gar Saxon.
He is also said to appear in Star Wars Rebels with his role of Gar Saxon as Baylan in Ashoka. As the official Star Wars page states the following
